Personal Development Partnership
Key information
Age range: 14-19
Location: Edinburgh, Glasgow, North Lanarkshire and Dundee
Who it's for: Young people at risk of disengagement
This programme aims to help young people to reach their potential and divert them from the problems that they might otherwise face.
The 'PDP', as it's known, is a partnership between Venture Trust, Venture Scotland, The Prince's Trust and Fairbridge in Scotland. It's particularly designed for young people who are at risk of involvement with drugs and alcohol, on the cusp of involvement in antisocial or criminal behaviour, or who are not in employment, education or training. Individuals referred to any one of the partner agencies are guided through the range of services available across the partnership by their Positive Destinations Advisor (PDA).
Young people coming to Venture Trust are supported to develop skills to become more employable or stable - by raising aspirations and building confidence. Following an intensive wilderness journey, we support participants in their communities to access local services and opportunities.
The PDP’s objectives are to improve the life chances for young people referred to the programme; to develop closer partnership working and information sharing between the partners and local authorities, and to develop closer partnership working between the voluntary sector partners.
As such, the partnerships success will be measured on:
- The number of young people moving into a positive destination.
- The effectiveness of partnership working and information sharing, and service development between the voluntary sector partners.
- The effectiveness of links with local authority partners.
The partnership is still in its early days, but 135 young people have already received support from the PDP (as of August 2011), who were referred from 40 different partner organisations including MCMC leads, youth offending services, social work teams, Skills Development Scotland and 22 different schools.
