Recruitment Day
In 2009 VT intends to expand its operations throughout Scotland; from the Central Belt to the West Highlands, we’re going to need some of the best staff in the business.
Venture Trust has been running Outdoor Development courses from its base in Applecross in the West Highlands of Scotland for more than 12 years. In that time we’ve helped more than four thousand of the most difficult to reach young people from across the UK begin to take steps forwards in their lives. In the last year, we’ve been operating throughout Scotland from our converted midi-coach that goes to the communities our participants live in – offering those who are not ready to make the journey to Applecross the chance to take part in a VT course.
We’re holding a recruitment day in Edinburgh on the 19th of November and it’s by invitation only; so, if you’re interested in working with us, excited by the type of work that we do and want to find out more then make sure that a copy of your C.V. reaches us by the 7th of November; those with the qualities we are looking for will be invited. You’ll get a chance to meet some of the people who make Venture Trust the great place it is as well as attend a number of information sessions and short workshops on what we do and how we do it. If you like what you see there will be the opportunity for informal questions and answers with members of the management team.
Opportunities exist for Field staff, Team Leaders, Managerial and Support roles, based both in the Central Belt and at Applecross.
Field staff: we are looking for people with a couple of years experience as an outdoor instructor (preferably with experience of our client-group) and a number of outdoor qualifications. You’ll be confident in your ability to work with complicated individuals, as well as confident in your range of outdoor skills and knowledge. You’ll be someone who’s ready to take the next steps in your own development and you’ll be passionate about helping to develop others.
Team Leaders: these posts require people with a higher level of qualification and greater experience of working with a similar client-group; however, you’ll certainly need to have experience of managing a small team. You’ll be a confident individual able to support your staff team working with complicated groups and your outdoor skills and knowledge will be backed up by qualification and certification at a higher level.
Programme Managers: these posts require less ’hands on’ work with course participants, a Programme Manager will primarily be involved in managing a regional staff team; however, it is essential that they have substantial knowledge/experience of working with young people using adventurous activities in outdoor/wilderness environments as well as the ability to inspire teams and manage budgets.
Support Staff: We’re also looking for individuals with a range of practical skills, i.e. who can drive buses, organise and maintain equipment, etc. These individuals will help us ensure that our vehicles and equipment are kept in top condition as well as helping out on the course programmes. You’ll need some experience of working with young people, but your enthusiasm and your practical, mechanical and driving skills are more important to us than outdoor qualifications.
Outreach: If you are an experienced youth-worker, skilled at outreach or detached youth-work we’d like to meet you too. Knowledge of the social-work system as well as Criminal Justice in Scotland would be useful. The ability to work as part of a team and manage an independent caseload is important.
If you’d like to have an informal chat before you decide whether Venture Trust is for you, then give either Andy Ashworth or George Graham a call on 01520 744 332. If you’re ready to come to our recruitment day then please send a copy of your C.V. with which post you’re interested in to Tory Harper by the 7th of November, either e-mail or post to: Venture Trust, F.A.O. Tory Harper, Eric Liddell centre, 15 Morningside Road, Edinburgh, EH10 4DP.
We look forward to meeting you there.
