Course SG_04_08 Sept 2008

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008

Well, I had hoped to be able to insert a post written by the group themselves;

however, it hasn’t materialised. I’ll be asking a few questions about that later.

Meanwhile, my apologies for that short stroll up the garden path.

So, without their input allow me to add a little flavour.

Twelve young people started this course and six finished.

All six left either of their own accord or owing to old injuries that flared-up on them.

The course started with the usual tipi two-nighter on the Applecross peninsula.

During this time they went canoeing and climbing.

They then returned to the centre and made-ready for the trip to Uags.

They travelled to Uags by sea kayak (preparation for the full expedition).

Whilst there they did abseiling, fishing, problem-solving and an overnight solo.

Back to the centre for more preparation for the final expedition.

A part of this preparation included the crate-stack.

The expedition started in sea-kayaks with a journey around the southern part

of the Applecross Peninsula and into Loch Carron. They were then taken by mini-bus

to the start of their walk over the 420m Coulin Pass to Loch Torridon.

They made an ascent of the 903m Ben Damh and were driven to Inverbain where they

spent the night before walking back to the centre.

Once back at the centre distraction from the intense employment-based sessions was provided by the

coasteering session and the pier jump.

So, unless the post that was originally written by the guys on this course turns up, I guess this’ll be it.

Cheers for now.
